Course Schedule

Day 1 — Theory & Confined Water Practice

  • Course orientation, safety briefing, and knowledge review.
  • Classroom session covering recognizing stress, accident prevention, and rescue procedures.
  • Confined water exercises including:
    • Assisting a tired diver at the surface
    • Helping a panicked diver
    • Approaching and rescuing an unresponsive diver
    • Removing equipment and towing the diver to the boat
    • In-water rescue breathing techniques

Goal of Day 1: Master rescue techniques and learn to anticipate and prevent problems before they occur.

Day 2 — Open Water Scenarios

  • Realistic rescue simulations in open water including:
    • Missing diver search
    • Unresponsive diver underwater
    • Managing a simulated decompression sickness incident
    • Coordinating a rescue from the boat (communication, oxygen, first aid)
  • Full debrief on stress management, teamwork, and prioritizing actions

By the end of Day 2 you will have experienced realistic rescue scenarios and learned how to react calmly, efficiently, and effectively.

  • How to respond to underwater and surface emergencies
  • How to organize and lead a rescue operation
  • How to use emergency equipment (oxygen kit, first aid, floats, etc.)

Certification & Requirements

  • Prerequisites: PADI Advanced Open Water (or equivalent), minimum age 12, and EFR (First Aid & CPR) completed within the last 24 months.
  • Duration: 2 intensive days
  • Certification: PADI Rescue Diver — a major step toward becoming a Divemaster
