Course Overview

The PADI Enriched Air Nitrox Diver Specialty teaches you how to safely use enriched air Nitrox to extend your no-decompression limits and optimize your dive planning.

During this one-day course, you will learn how Nitrox works, how to analyze your breathing gas, how to plan Nitrox dives, and how to manage oxygen exposure safely.

Whether you are planning multiple dives during a holiday or simply want to improve your dive planning, Nitrox can be a valuable addition to your diving skills.

What You Will Learn

During the course, you will learn how to:

• Understand what enriched air Nitrox is and how it differs from standard air.
• Understand the advantages and limitations of Nitrox.
• Analyze the oxygen percentage of your tank before diving.
• Set and use your dive computer correctly for Nitrox.
• Calculate and understand Maximum Operating Depth (MOD).
• Understand oxygen exposure and oxygen toxicity limits.
• Plan dives using Nitrox and manage your no-decompression limits.
• Apply safe procedures for handling and using Nitrox.

Nitrox Analysis & Dive Planning

A key part of the course is learning how to take responsibility for your breathing gas.

Before each Nitrox dive, you will learn how to:

• Check the tank label and gas information.
• Analyze the oxygen percentage using an oxygen analyzer.
• Record and confirm the analyzed mix.
• Determine the appropriate MOD for the gas.
• Enter the correct Nitrox settings into your dive computer.
• Plan your dive within safe oxygen exposure limits.

Why Dive Nitrox?

Nitrox can be particularly useful for divers who enjoy multiple dives over several days.

Compared with air, an appropriate Nitrox mix can provide longer no-decompression limits at certain depths, depending on the dive profile.

This can make Nitrox especially interesting for:

• Dive holidays with multiple dives per day.
• Repetitive diving.
• Divers who want more flexibility when planning their dives.
• Divers continuing their education with deeper or more advanced specialties.

Important: Nitrox does not automatically mean longer or deeper dives. The benefits depend on the mix, depth, dive profile and oxygen exposure limits.
